1. What is the difference between a DBA and a PhD Degree?

Both degrees are terminal degrees. None is inferior to the other. What differentiates the DBA from the PhD degree is the nature of the output.  PhD is more theoretical while the DBA is more applied (output). The DBA solves a real-world practical business problem.

 

2. How long has the Doctor of Business Administration programme been in Lagos Business School?

We are not new to running doctoral programmes at LBS. We have had the PhD for over 10 years. For the DBA programme, this is our first cohort.

 

3. How long is the programme?

Thirty-Six (36) months

4. How do I apply to the DBA Programme?

The application fee is NGN 50,000.

7. How much is the programme fee and what is included in it?

Please see the programme fee page for this. The fee for the programme covers tuition, course materials, (with the exception of textbooks), and the use of ancillary facilities.

  • O’level with 5 Credits (Mathematics and English Language inclusive)
  • A masters degree (MBA or MSc) with at least an average of ‘B’ grade i.e. 60%
  • A good pre-admission research proposal.
  • Satisfactory evaluation of the candidate’s intellectual capacity, professionalism, maturity, and motivation for work through an interview.
  • Minimum of eight years of professional experience (at least six of which must be at managerial or supervisory role)

10. Can I get input and guidance from LBS faculty members during the development of my pre-admission proposal?

No. This will lead to some level of conflict of interest since the same faculty members will be assessing the eligibility of your proposal during the pre-admission screening.

11. Where do I get materials for putting together the DBA research proposal?

Google scholar and other industry sources are good resources to start with.

12. Can I change my research proposal and interest during the DBA study?

The pre-entry proposal isn’t usually the final proposal. After going through the two years of course work, your understanding, perception, and expertise would have been improved upon. You will spot errors and inconsistency in your pre-entry proposal. However, remember that the time frame plays a role in this.

 

13. Does LBS have collaborations with international business schools for research guidance and supervision?

Yes, there will be international and local research guidance and supervisory components in the DBA study.

14. What does an official transcript mean?

It means that your transcript/academic record be sent directly from your former school to the DBA office at Lagos Business School. We accept both soft and hard copy transcript. We do not receive transcript directly from students.

 

15. As an alumnus of LBS, do I still need to request for my transcript to be sent to the DBA office?

Yes, we understand that this is an internal document but for privacy purpose, you will need to make an official request to the MBA office at Lagos Business School to send your transcript to the DBA office.

16. My background is in Applied Physics/Behavioural Science/Engineering/Communication etc. Can I apply for the DBA programme? What qualifications do I need?

Yes, you can apply for the DBA programme. Please check the  admission requirements for the programme here.

 

17. Is there a minimum class attendance to qualify for writing the DBA examination?

Yes, you must have an 80% class attendance. It is to your disadvantage if you do not attend classes to  get the knowledge that will help you work through your thesis.

18. Are international students eligible to apply?

Yes. Domestic and international students alike are welcome to apply.

19. How do I know if my application is complete?

Your status can be checked via the online application system. We will notify you via email if anything is missing from your application. This includes, but may not be limited to, letters of recommendation, transcripts, research proposal and the application fee. Should your application be incomplete, then materials will be marked as missing on your checklist. Any applications that are incomplete as of the application deadline will shift to the next round of admission.

 

20. How do I check the status of my application?

You can check the status of your application on our online application system. Log in with the same username and password that you used to submit your application.

 

21. How will my application be evaluated?

Each application received is reviewed in depth by the Admissions Committee. When selecting students we put an emphasis on intellectual capacity, professionalism, maturity and effective decision-making and problem-solving potential.
