A delegation from the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM), the apex organisation governing the practice of Human Resource Management in Nigeria, on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, paid an institutional visit to the Lagos Business School (LBS). The visit was, among other things, an opportunity for both institutions to explore opportunities for partnerships and collaboration.
The delegation was led by the Chairman of the Lagos State branch, Mr. Emmanuel Anigbata MCIPM and the Chairman of the Ibeju Lekki chapter, Mr. Chris Onakpo ACIPM. They were received by Henry Andoh, Director, Alumni Relations and Advancement, Lagos Business School, on behalf of The Dean, Professor Chris Ogbechie. Also present to welcome the CIPM delegation were Chibueze Ihenacho, Head, Human Resources; Dr. Uche Attoh, Faculty, Organisational Behaviour; and Olisa Molokwu, Manager, Strategic Partnerships.
Expressing his delight at the visit, Chibueze Ihenacho, during his welcome address, reiterated the importance of elevating and holding the practice of human resource management in Nigeria, to lofty standards. “Lagos Business School is renowned for its commitment to excellence in management education and research. With your visit, we take the first step towards a partnership that promises to bring about positive change in the Human Resource Management profession and the wider business community. Together, we can shape the future of leadership and Human Resource Management in Nigeria, seizing the opportunities and addressing the challenges that lie ahead. We are excited about the potential of this partnership and the impact it can have on our respective organizations and the HR community at large.” he stated.
Following the welcome address and introductions, Mr. Chris Onakpo spoke briefly on the activities of the CIPM in Nigeria and highlighted potential opportunities for collaboration between LBS and the CIPM. According to him, LBS’ commitment to grooming responsible leaders; and the CIPM’s legacy as the body governing the practice of human resource management in Nigeria, forms a solid basis for a beneficial partnership between both organisations.
As part of the visit, the guests also learned about LBS’ history, its relationship with Opus Dei, and an overview of the programmes offered across Executive Education and the MBA.
Dr. Uche Attoh spoke about the teaching and research within the Organisational Behaviour and Human Resource Management department at LBS. In his remarks, Dr. Attoh highlighted LBS’ commitment to rigorous academic standards. “Our faculty are without exception, individuals at the forefront of research in their fields, who in addition, also possess relevant industry experience. This makes for a more robust curriculum and learning experience on our programmes,” he said.
During the closing remarks, Dr. Attoh spoke on the relationship between LBS and CIPM. “The CIPM has had a long relationship with LBS. A relationship that has been mutually beneficial to both parties. We expect that this visit will further deepen the relationship between both institutions and open doors for even greater collaboration.” The visit from the CIPM delegation was concluded with a tour of the LBS campus.
