First Year - First Semester Core Courses
Analysis of Business Problems (ABP)
This course is intended to develop a student's basic ability to think about complex real-world business problems. At the same time it serves as an introduction to the use of the case method. The different stages involved in making decisions and implementing them are considered. Defining the problem(s), establishing the criteria (both quantitative and qualitative), designing alternative solutions, and making a decision based on both objective and subjective criteria and the ease of successful implementation of the solution chosen. Special attention is also given to evaluating proposals and setting criteria for decision making.
Corporate Financial Accounting (CFA)
Learn the fundamentals of financial accounting, reporting and analysis. You will be introduced to the processes by which business transactions generate accounting entries, how they are recorded and summarised in financial statements.
Business Ethics (BE)
Gain an understanding of the basic concepts, distinctions and techniques for effective ethical analysis of business situations. You will also be exposed to the specific ethical principles or norms applicable in those business situations which pose more specific challenges and acquaint them with commonly held standards of ethical behaviour in such situations.
Management Communication (MC)
Gain the basic communication skills needed as a manager to achieve results and to develop good relations within and outside the organisation. The use of these skills is examined in the context of the organisation by means of case studies and role-plays.
Quantitative Analysis (QA)
The Quantitative Analysis course focuses on improving a manager's decision-making and problem solving skills through analytical and quantitative methods. In today's highly competitive business environment, the use of the quantitative tools in the analysis of business problems is becoming increasingly important as invaluable complements to the more traditional qualitative procedures. As a manager you will find that you are in the best position to increase decision - making effectiveness by learning more about quatitative methodology, and by understanding its contribution to the decision- making process.
First Year - Second Semester Core Courses:
Economic Environment of Business I (EEB-I)
This course concentrates on the macroeconomic environment of business. It sets out to achieve the following: (a) Defining the components of the macro-economy; (b) illustrating the channels through which the macro-economy is affected by government policy; and (c) showing how the macro economy affects corporate decision-making.
Cost and Management Accounting (CMA)
Discover the multiplicity of roles management accounting information can play in 'driving' a business. This course is developed on the central theme that management accounting exists within a business primarily to facilitate the development and implementation of the business strategy.
Introduction to Marketing (IM-I)
Develop an understanding of the basic elements in marketing strategy such as product planning, market selection, distribution and pricing. In addition, you will also learn how to integrate all these elements in a coherent marketing mix.
Human Behaviour in Organisations I
This course aims at increasing the personal effectiveness and skill of participants in understanding, analysing and managing people in organisations. It is an introduction to the study of interpersonal relations, group behaviour, politics and influence in organisations. The underlying framework focuses on the harmonisation of personal and organisational goals.
Business Statistics
This course is designed to help first year MBA students understand the basic concepts and techniques of business statistics. It is designed to enable the candidates acquire the analytical tools and skills for planning, execution, analysis and application of business data studies and statistics.

Management Information Systems (MIS)
This course is designed for business managers to understand the value of their input into the development of information systems in their organisations.
The Management of Information Systems: In this module, participants will be introduced to Information Systems, Management Information Systems (MIS) and also engage in MIS activities namely: Planning, development, implementation, business process management, etc.
- The Role of Information Technology in the Organisation: How and why do organisations implement information technology solutions? This module attempts to answer some of these questions by proffering reasons for Information Technology in the organisation.
- Ethics, Security and Privacy of Information Systems: How should organisations govern the use and dissemination of Information Systems? What measures should they put in place to ensure that privacy and secrecy of information is maintained?
- The Internet and New Technologies: In this module, we review the Internet as a business platform looking at the business model, business transformation and B2C and B2B models.
